Cayuga, Ind. - Jerry Dean Delp, 75, of Cayuga, passed away unexpectedly at 10:55 p.m. CST Saturday, December 11, 2021 at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana, Illinois.
He was born June 29, 1946 in Danville, Illinois the son of the late Thelma T. (Stevenson) Reed and Paul D. Delp.
Jerry married Bonnilee Donald on November 21, 1967 in Hawaii. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2021.
Survivors include his daughter: Cheryl (Scott) Abernathy of Cayuga, Indiana; his son: Adam (Samantha Struver) Delp of Greenwood, Indiana; four grandchildren: Leah and Trenton Abernathy; Dylan Vacricks, and Olivia Struver; sister: Nancy (Melvyn) Witsman of Cayuga, Indiana, along with several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his grandson: Cameron Abernathy; his grandparents that raised him: Pete and Cuba Dixon, and sister: Monie Rose.
Jerry was a 1965 graduate of North Vermillion High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the United States Army, receiving a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. Jerry formerly owned and operated Best Motor Company in Danville, Illinois before retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Eugene United Methodist Church, Cayuga American Legion Post 263 (Past Commander), and the Perrysville Unity Lodge #344 F&AM. He enjoyed raising flowers, grilling/cookout's, watching MMA, boxing, basketball and football. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Barney.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Saturday, December 18, 2021 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jon Overbey; Burial with Honors: Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EST Friday, December 17, 2021 with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. EST. Contributions may be made to the Eugene United Methodist Church, C/O Carma Axtell, 5227 North Water Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928.
